Instructions for authors

The editorial board of the journal Pharmaca asks all potential contributors to adhere to these instructions when writing a paper. Before writing a paper, it will be very useful to review one issue of Pharmaca and compile it according to a sample.

 

1. Pharmaca accepts the following types of contributions:

  • Editorials (important scientific, professional event);

  • Epicritical reviews;

  • Professional articles;

  • Reviews;

  • Articles "In focus";

  • Reviews of new drugs;

  • News from the reimbursement list of medicines;

  • PRO and CONTRA;

  • Reviews from the clinical-pharmacological literature;

  • Letters from readers (inquiries, comments, discussions on reviews published in Pharmaca or other questions from specific fields of clinical pharmacology);

  • Book reviews and news.

When reporting a clinical trial, special attention should be paid to the issue of ethics (informed consent, acceptance of the methodology - trial plan and results by the ethics committee).

 

2. Papers are submitted in one copy, written in double spacing, in Word for Windows format, by e-mail to: contactpharmaca@gmail.com. Please send images, tables and graphics separately in the usual formats (TIFF, JPEG, BMP, Word tables, PowerPoint, Excel). Do not use a tab in creating tables.

The recommended length is 3000 words for professional and review papers and 1500 words for other types of contributions. References: maximum 40. In case of discrepancies, contact the editorial office for an agreement. Use Times New Roman or Arial font, font size: 11 pt.

 

3. The first page of a professional or review paper should contain:

  • Article title in Croatian and English,

  • Full name of the author,

  • Name and address of the institution of employment of all authors,

  • Name and surname of the contact person with e-mail address.

Professional articles and reviews should have a summary (up to 250 words) and a list of keywords (3-5) in Croatian and English. The abstract should be structured: Objective, Methods, Results and Conclusion.

The schedule within the paper should be as follows: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion (confrontation with the literature) and eventually a Conclusion, and bibliography. The place where the image or table is located must be marked in the paper. Additionally, the paper may be equipped with adequate subheadings to improve comprehensibility.

The literature should be cited according to the instructions prescribed by Index Medicus. It is advisable to cite recent sources and literature not older than 5 years.

Example of citing a book:

Fleiss JL. Statistical Methods for Rates and Propositions. New York, John Wiley and Sons Inc, 1973; 182.

Example of citing a part of a book:

Hebrang A, Kusić Z .: Radiological and nuclear medical tests. In Vrhovac B. et al., Eds. Internal Medicine, Zagreb: Naprijed, 1991: 273-287.

Note: Unprotected drug names should be written in lower case. Trademarks are capitalized.

 

4. The editorial board has the right to make linguistic and stylistic corrections of the text.

 

5. Papers are reviewed anonymously by two reviewers. After an expert review, if necessary, the editorial board will return individual texts to the authors for possible correction.

What must a cover letter contain?

For papers submitted to the editorial board showing the results of research on humans, it should be stated that the research has a positive opinion of the Ethics Committee of the institution where the research was conducted and that it was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki. All research on human subjects should include a statement that patients have given informed consent and that the anonymity of the subjects has been preserved. This must be included in the paper, in the section Methods / Respondents.

Authors must confirm in a cover letter that the paper has not been submitted or published in the same or similar form in another journal.

The editorial board has the right to reject papers that do not meet the above criteria.

Authors will be held responsible for incorrect statements or non-compliance with the above conditions.
